Parliamentary activity data (Members of the European Parliament)
MEPScore publishes activity records for sitting and former Members of the European Parliament, covering legislative activity, engagement and oversight, roles, participation and attendance, and comparative voting figures. The data is sourced from the European Parliament’s public registers and Open Data Portal; historical terms additionally draw on Parltrack, a public archive of EP data. We publish this because it documents how elected Members exercise a public mandate, not because we asked each Member for permission. These records are kept as a historical record for as long as the site operates.
The full list of published data fields is maintained on the Data & Sources page, so it stays in one place and up to date.
Legal basis
Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR: legitimate interest in public transparency about elected officials exercising a public mandate. Any data that could reveal political opinions is data the Members concerned have manifestly made public themselves through their parliamentary work, so Art. 9(2)(e) applies where Art. 9 is in play. Notifying each individual would involve a disproportionate effort, given the number of individuals concerned and the public-register source of the data, so this notice, together with the site’s “About” and “Data & Sources” pages, serves as the compensating measure under Art. 14(5)(b).
Website analytics
With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to see how the site is used. Analytics only runs after you say yes; your choice is stored in your browser, and you can change or withdraw it at any time with the reset option on the Data & Sources page. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing that took place before you withdrew it.
Legal basis
Google acts as our data processor for GA4. Microsoft is an independent data controller for Clarity; Clarity data is subject to Microsoft’s own privacy terms in addition to ours. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) (consent).
Server logs and site statistics
Our host keeps standard technical logs (IP address, request, timestamp) for security, kept for 90 days and then deleted. We also compile these into an internal, access-restricted dashboard of daily visit counts and a human-vs-bot split, and count clicks on outbound social links the same way, through a /out/ redirect. No third-party analytics tool is involved; the data stays on our own server, hosted by Amazon Web Services in the EU.
Legal basis
Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR: legitimate interest in understanding site usage and preventing abuse, for both the log retention and the derived statistics. This is separate from the consent-gated client-side analytics above and is not gated by your cookie choice, because no cookie or browser-side script is used here.
Newsletter
If you subscribe, we use your email only to send the newsletter, and only after double opt-in. Amazon Web Services runs the sending, through Amazon SES in the EU (Ireland, eu-west-1), so your data is not transferred outside the EU for this purpose. We keep your address for as long as you stay subscribed; you can unsubscribe any time from the link in every email.
Legal basis
Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent).
International transfers
Google and Microsoft each self-certify under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, the European Commission’s adopted mechanism for transfers of personal data to the United States.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to receive it in a portable format. You can also object, at any time, to processing based on our legitimate interest, including the parliamentary activity data and the server-side statistics above. Where processing rests on your consent (analytics, newsletter), you can withdraw it at any time: the reset option for analytics, the unsubscribe link for the newsletter. To use any of these rights, contact mepscore@gmail.com. You can also lodge a complaint with your national data protection supervisory authority.
